The Egyptian Ministry of Supply, in coordination with relevant regulatory and executive bodies, is conducting intensive and surprise inspections of food-related activities across various governorates.

These efforts have led to the discovery of several violations involving the use of titanium dioxide to alter the properties and appearance of sugarcane juice, which contravenes established regulations. This initiative is part of the ministry’s commitment to combat all forms of commercial fraud and deception in food products.

In Assiut Governorate, the Qusiya Supply Administration successfully apprehended a vendor for using the aforementioned substance. The seized items were confiscated, and necessary legal action was initiated.

Additionally, the Toukh Supply Administration in Qalyubia Governorate, in collaboration with the Consumer Protection Agency and the City Council of Toukh, confiscated approximately 14 kilograms of titanium dioxide from a mobile juice cart. The seized materials were secured, and the case was referred to the public prosecutor for further action.

The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade emphasized that these seizures reflect the vigilance of regulatory bodies and ongoing field monitoring efforts to identify violations. They are committed to addressing practices that may jeopardize public health or undermine consumer rights. The ministry reiterated that any manipulation of food ingredients or use of substances not designated for approved purposes constitutes a violation warranting legal accountability.
