Switzerland Coach Expresses Disappointment After Draw with Qatar in World Cup 2026
Murad Yakın, the head coach of the Switzerland national team, expressed deep disappointment following his team’s draw against Qatar in the 2026 World Cup.
Qatar managed to secure a historic 1-1 draw against Switzerland during their match at Levi’s Stadium, part of the first round of Group B in the tournament.
Switzerland took the lead in the 17th minute with a penalty converted by Breel Embolo.
However, Qatar equalized in stoppage time at 90+5 minutes with a powerful header from Boualem Khoukhi, leaving Swiss goalkeeper unable to save the effort.
In post-match comments, Yakın stated, “It is very painful; we were not rewarded enough for our efforts. We were not effective enough as a team.”.
He added, “This is football; if you don’t score, you will concede goals. Qatar defended well and always disrupted us. When you are only one goal ahead, your opponent starts to believe they can come back.”.
Yakın continued, “They seized their opportunity at just the right moment when we couldn’t respond. We were controlling the game but ultimately lacked some intelligence.”.
