Written byFerdous Saeed

Romelu Lukaku, the Belgian national team striker, expressed his disappointment following the goalless draw against Iran in their second group stage match of the 2026 World Cup.

Belgium failed to secure their first victory of the tournament after two matches, despite creating numerous opportunities against the Iranian defense, settling for just one point so far.

Lukaku made his return to the starting lineup after recovering from injury but was unable to find the net or help his team claim all three points.

In comments following the match, Lukaku stated: “We need to analyze what happened. We had many chances to score, but we didn’t capitalize on them effectively. At times, we played with excessive emotion and should have adhered to our game plan from the start.”.

He added: “I’m happy to be back and starting, but the result is disappointing. We have no option but to win our next match to keep our qualification hopes alive.”.

Group F of the 2026 World Cup is proving competitive, featuring Belgium, Egypt, Iran, and New Zealand in a tight race for advancement to the knockout stage.
