A goalless draw marked the match between Iran and Belgium, held on Sunday evening at the Los Angeles Stadium during the second round of Group G in the 2026 World Cup.

Both teams earned one point from the match, with Iran temporarily taking the lead in the group with two points, edging Belgium on goal difference, who also has two points.

The group awaits a crucial match on Monday morning as Egypt faces New Zealand, with the Pharaohs having a chance to take sole possession of first place with a victory.

The match began with an aggressive push from Belgium, who threatened Iran’s goal early on with a shot from Kevin De Bruyne in the eighth minute, but it lacked enough danger to change the scoreline.

In the 25th minute, Mehdi Taremi managed to score for Iran; however, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) intervened and confirmed an offside position, resulting in the goal being disallowed and keeping the first half scoreless.

As the second half commenced, Belgium intensified their offensive pressure in search of a breakthrough goal. However, Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand showcased remarkable skill by saving several clear chances.

Belgium’s task became more difficult in the 67th minute when Nathan Ngoy received a red card for fouling Mehdi Taremi during a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper, leaving Belgium to finish the match with ten players.

Despite Iran’s numerical advantage in the remaining minutes, their attempts did not yield any goals. The match ended in a goalless draw, leaving qualification from Group G undecided.
