Chelsea’s Jimmy-Jay Morgan Joins West Bromwich Albion in Reported £4m Deal

Written byFerdous Saeed

West Bromwich Albion has officially signed Chelsea’s promising young talent, Jimmy-Jay Morgan. The 20-year-old forward recently completed a successful season with Peterborough United, where he netted 12 goals and provided three assists in 34 appearances in League One.

Despite his impressive performance at Peterborough, Morgan was anticipated to leave Chelsea this summer as he had only a year left on his contract. Reports surfaced over the weekend indicating that West Brom was keen to secure the England Under-20 international as part of their strategy to recruit young players following improvements in their financial standing with the EFL.

On Thursday evening, the Baggies confirmed the completion of Morgan’s transfer on a four-year deal.

Although West Brom has stated that the transfer fee is undisclosed, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that a total package of £4 million has been agreed upon. Chelsea has also included a sell-on clause in the deal, which will assist in addressing their financial regulations.

When Chelsea acquired Morgan from Southampton in January 2023 for £6 million, the structure of this sale is expected to yield a profit for them through amortization.

Morgan Expresses Excitement Over Transfer

In a statement on West Brom’s official website, Morgan expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m buzzing to be here. I’m really excited and it was an easy choice. I heard of Albion’s interest about two weeks ago. The club moved things on and we managed to get it all agreed pretty quickly.”.

He added, “My conversation with the manager was good. He told me about the style of football he wants to play and how I’m going to fit into that. He also spoke about the work he wants to do with me to help bring out my best attributes. I’ve heard nothing but positive things so far and I understand how big the club is. The size of the club is one of the main reasons why I wanted to join.”.

Morgan aims to help West Brom improve upon last season’s performance while looking forward to maximizing his own playing time and contributing goals. He joins fellow young talents Carter Pinnington from Liverpool and Barney Stewart from Falkirk at The Hawthorns.
