Eli Wahi Cleared to Join Ivory Coast Squad Ahead of Germany Clash in 2026 World Cup
The Ivory Coast national team received encouraging news ahead of their upcoming match against Germany in the second round of Group E at the 2026 World Cup, as striker Eli Wahi is on track to participate in the game.
French radio station “Monte Carlo” reported that Canadian authorities have approved Wahi’s entry into the country, making him available for selection for his national team in the match scheduled for Saturday.
The player faced challenges in recent days when he was initially denied entry into Canada due to suspicions linked to a sports betting scandal that has stirred controversy in France.
Approval from Canadian officials followed the submission of an official document from the public prosecutor’s office in Marseille, confirming that Wahi is not under any ongoing investigations or legal proceedings related to the betting issue tied to the match between Nice and Metz.
Earlier, Canadian authorities had requested additional information regarding the legal status of the Ivorian striker amid reports linking him to allegations of match-fixing.
Wahi’s lawyer, Marie Dossé, affirmed that her client is not facing any legal action at this time and emphasized that there are no legal restrictions preventing him from traveling or participating in sporting events.
With Wahi nearing readiness, his potential return is a significant morale boost for both the coaching staff and players ahead of this crucial encounter against Germany.
