Dr. Sherif Youssef Saleh, President of Port Said University, announced a remarkable international achievement as the university advanced 63 places in the U.S. News & World Report global rankings, moving from 884 to 821.

This leap is a result of substantial efforts over the past year and reflects the fruits of international cooperation and partnerships that the university has established with various global universities and higher education entities.

The U.S. News & World Report, published by Clarivate, released its results for the best universities for the academic year 2026–2027. The number of Egyptian universities listed in the ranking increased from 19 in 2023 to 27 in 2025, and now stands at 29, including Delta University, in this year’s ranking. The number of Egyptian universities among the top 1000 globally also rose from 22 to 24 compared to last year, with an average improvement of over 100 places for these institutions, reflecting a notable enhancement in their research and educational performance.

This ranking is based on four main criteria: academic reputation (25%), which includes global and regional research reputation; research output (15%), which encompasses published papers, books, and conference proceedings; research impact (50%), which assesses citation impact and scientific quality standards; and international outlook (10%), which measures international collaboration and research partnerships with institutions from different countries.

To be included in the U.S. rankings, a university must be among the top 250 in the global reputation survey by Clarivate Analytics or publish at least 1,250 research papers between 2020 and 2024.

The ranking is noted for its transparency, as it does not involve any stakeholders’ influence and relies solely on data provided by Clarivate.

The ranking director indicated that while there was a global decline in research output this year, Port Said University showed improvements across all indicators compared to last year, showcasing a new spirit within the institution.

On this occasion, the president expressed his sincere gratitude and congratulations to Dr. Saleh Zarmaba and the university’s ranking team—Dr. Heba Suleiman, Dr. Amer Shahata, and their colleagues—for their outstanding efforts that led to these commendable results on an international level.
