Arsenal Maintains Lead in Race for Leicester’s Jeremy Monga Amid Transfer Interest

Written byFerdous Saeed

Arsenal has reportedly secured its position as the frontrunner in the pursuit of Leicester City’s promising talent, Jeremy Monga, this summer. The Gunners have made a formal offer for the 16-year-old, who featured in 27 Championship matches for Leicester during the 2025-26 season before the club’s relegation to League One.

Monga is unlikely to remain at King Power Stadium for third-tier football next season, a sentiment shared by teammate Victor Kristiansen, who is eager to join Danish giants Copenhagen.

Arsenal is actively working to finalize a deal for Monga, whose playing style has drawn comparisons to current Ballon d’Or holder Ousmane Dembélé. Notably, Monga is the third-youngest player in Premier League history, following Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman in making swift debuts since 1992.

Transfer Competition Heats Up

According to The Mirror, Arsenal faces stiff competition for Monga, with several Premier League and European clubs attempting to disrupt their pursuit of the young forward. Once Monga turns 17 on July 10, he will sign pre-agreed professional terms with Leicester, allowing the club to demand a fee for his services.

Brentford has emerged as the latest Premier League club interested in Monga, potentially offering him an expedited path to first-team action. Alongside Brentford, Newcastle United and an unnamed German club are also vying for the talented teenager ahead of the upcoming 2026-27 season.

There is a strong commitment within Arsenal to enhance their youth development program, with sporting director Andrea Berta acknowledging that the academy has lagged behind elite standards recently.

Monga: A Beacon of Hope

A decade after their surprising Premier League title win, Leicester City now faces a challenging campaign in English football’s third tier alongside teams like Bromley. The previous season saw some players exhibit an air of arrogance, leading to a disconnect with fans as they struggled against relegation.

In contrast, Monga has demonstrated remarkable character and skill under pressure during his first-team appearances at King Power Stadium. His resilience and talent set him apart from those negative influences within the squad.
