Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa Reconsiders Summer Transfer Plans
Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa is reportedly inclined to stay at Anfield during the upcoming summer transfer window. Since joining from Juventus in 2024, the adaptable attacker has faced challenges securing regular playing time across all competitions.
Chiesa has made only 10 starts and appeared as a substitute 41 times, with just two of those starts occurring in the Premier League. Despite these limited opportunities, he has managed to contribute with five goals and five assists, which is considered a respectable tally under the circumstances. Initially, there were expectations that he would return to Italy this summer.
However, according to Mirko De Natale of TuttoJuve, Chiesa’s stance on leaving Merseyside has shifted. The departure of Arne Slot, who rarely utilized the Italian international, appears to have influenced his decision.
Chiesa’s Shift in Focus
Chiesa is now reportedly focused on earning a starting position under new manager Andoni Iraola. Additionally, Como has emerged as a potential suitor for Chiesa alongside Juventus.
At this stage, Liverpool has yet to make a definitive decision regarding Chiesa’s future, likely influenced by ongoing speculation about other players. Key figures such as Ibrahima Konate, Andrew Robertson, and Mohamed Salah are rumored to be leaving Liverpool, while Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo are also linked with potential transfers.
Is Retaining Chiesa Beneficial for Liverpool?
If Liverpool receives an offer exceeding the £12.5 million they invested in Chiesa, it may be prudent for them to consider selling the 51-cap international. However, if no suitable offer arises, retaining him could provide valuable opportunities for him to showcase his abilities.
While change is necessary at Liverpool following a challenging season, maintaining some continuity within the squad is equally important. Club officials should be cautious not to let too many players from last season depart. If Chiesa is content to remain with the team, it could simplify Iraola’s decision-making process as he looks to integrate the former Serie A star more regularly into his plans.
