Manchester United Eyes Felix Nmecha Amid Liverpool Competition for £52m Midfielder
Manchester United is preparing to compete with Liverpool for the signing of Felix Nmecha from Borussia Dortmund, according to recent reports. The Red Devils are keen on strengthening their squad as they aim to challenge Arsenal for the Premier League title next season.
Manager Michael Carrick is expected to add midfielder Ederson from Atalanta BC, although the deal is not finalized yet. With Casemiro’s departure leaving a gap in midfield, Carrick’s priority will be to bolster this area, especially since Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte are currently the only senior players available for a double pivot role.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Nmecha is actively considering a move away from Dortmund, with a transfer fee of approximately £52 million attracting interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool.

Evaluating Felix Nmecha: Is He the Right Fit for United?
If Mainoo is seen as a certain starter in midfield, it is crucial for United to acquire players who can complement his skill set. While Mainoo excels as a dribbler and carrier of the ball, Nmecha offers a more rounded defensive skill set, though he is not known for being an expansive passer.
Nmecha’s statistics from last season reveal that he played 29 matches, starting 25 of them. His aerial duels won percentage stands at 63%, while his ground duels won percentage is at 53%. He averaged 3.8 ball recoveries per game and completed an average of 32.3 successful passes per match—slightly lower than Mainoo’s average of 33.4.
However, concerns over Nmecha’s injury history are notable; he has only started at least 20 league games once in the past four seasons, which could make signing him less appealing for United.

Manchester United vs. Liverpool: The Transfer Battle Ahead
Both Manchester United and Liverpool have qualified for the Champions League, positioning them to spend significantly on their key targets. For midfielders like Nmecha, joining United may seem more attractive given their limited number of first-team midfielders.
However, should Liverpool decide to part ways with either Curtis Jones or Alexis Mac Allister, it could create an opening in Andoni Iraola’s lineup, complicating Nmecha’s decision between Anfield and Old Trafford.
