Ederson Set for Manchester United Medical as £38.7 Million Transfer Nears Completion
Ederson is expected to undergo his medical examination with Manchester United on Sunday, moving closer to a £38.7 million transfer from Atalanta BC.
The Red Devils have finalized all necessary documents for the midfielder’s transfer; however, the signing was delayed due to a late call-up to Brazil’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Ederson was brought in to replace the injured Roma right-back Wesley and was an unused substitute during Brazil’s 1-1 draw against Morocco in Saturday’s Group C opener.
Brazil now has a week to prepare before facing Haiti next Saturday in Philadelphia, followed by their Group C finale against Scotland in Miami Gardens.
Before Brazil’s next match, Ederson will take a significant step toward joining Manchester United, as Corriere Dello Sport, reported by Standard Sport, indicates that his medical will take place this weekend.

The 26-year-old is set to have his medical examinations in New York, with an announcement regarding his transfer expected soon after Brazil’s opening World Cup match.
Manchester United will pay an initial fee of £34.9 million for Ederson, with an additional £3.8 million in performance-related add-ons. He is anticipated to sign a four-year contract until 2030, with an option for another year.
This transfer will mark Ederson as Manchester United’s first signing of the summer window. He leaves Atalanta with an impressive record of 16 goals and six assists across 180 appearances in all competitions.
During the 2025-26 season, Ederson contributed three goals and two assists in 41 matches and made nine starts in the Champions League as Atalanta reached the last 16.

At a maximum cost of £38.7 million, Ederson is not expected to be Manchester United’s only midfield acquisition this summer, particularly as they may lose two current midfielders.
Casemiro is set to leave as a free agent when his contract expires, while Michael Carrick is also likely to approve Manuel Ugarte’s departure, whom Ederson will directly replace.
Mateus Fernandes has emerged as a top target for Manchester United as a potential successor to Casemiro, although Carrick has also identified another industrious option valued at £40 million.
The club is also looking to bolster their squad with new signings at left-back and left-winger. Additionally, they could benefit from a £15.9 million boost thanks to Ruben Amorim’s situation.
