Tottenham Hotspur Joins Liverpool in Pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton

Written byFerdous Saeed

Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly entered the competition to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton this summer. The 22-year-old is considered one of the Premier League’s most promising talents, and Liverpool, a club with a rich history of success, has also shown interest in the Eagles star.

In a surprising turn of events, Wharton was not included in Thomas Tuchel’s final 26-man England squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, which will be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He lost his place to players Kobbie Mainoo and Jordan Henderson.

Despite initial criticism of Tuchel’s choices before the tournament, England’s convincing 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening match has helped quell doubts about the team’s selection. After a balanced first half that ended 2-2, England surged ahead in the second half with goals from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford.

Spurs Compete with Liverpool for Wharton’s Signature

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur has emerged as a new contender for Wharton’s services as they seek to bolster their midfield ahead of the new season. The club aims to address issues stemming from a challenging 2025-26 campaign and the recent exit of Yves Bissouma.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly a strong admirer of Wharton. However, Crystal Palace has consistently maintained that the player is not for sale as they strive to keep their key players following manager Oliver Glasner’s departure.

While Liverpool is believed to have taken the lead by engaging with Wharton’s camp regarding a potential transfer, Tottenham remains a viable option for the midfielder.

The Lilywhites are also exploring other midfield targets, including West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes and Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali, who has faced challenges since joining English football.

Wharton Misses Out on World Cup Selection

Despite his evident talent, Wharton was not selected for Tuchel’s World Cup squad. The Champions League-winning coach chose to prioritize experience and leadership qualities when selecting his backup midfielders.

Jordan Henderson, who is part of England’s senior leadership team, was favored due to his ability to bridge communication between younger players and coaching staff. After returning to the Premier League with Brentford, Henderson was well-regarded by his teammates as a worthy choice for the World Cup team, as highlighted by comments from Morgan Rogers and Bellingham during recent interviews.
