Federico Chiesa Likely to Depart Liverpool Amid Summer Overhaul
Liverpool is undergoing a significant summer transformation following several high-profile departures and the appointment of new manager Andoni Iraola. The club is bracing for life without key players Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate, while uncertainty looms over other first-team members.
Now, it appears that another attacking player, Federico Chiesa, is on the verge of leaving as he considers a return to Italy.

Recent reports suggest that Chiesa’s departure from Anfield is becoming increasingly likely this summer, as he has struggled to secure a regular spot in the Premier League. The Italian international is reportedly eager to return to Serie A, with Napoli and Como currently leading the pursuit for his services. Liverpool is open to selling him and is expected to set a price of approximately €20 million (£17.5 million) for the winger.
While Liverpool would prefer a permanent transfer, interested clubs may initially propose loan deals with an obligation to buy if negotiations over the transfer fee become complicated.
Further discussions between Chiesa and Iraola are anticipated during pre-season. However, it is understood that Chiesa will be informed he can seek opportunities elsewhere as Iraola begins to mold his squad for the upcoming season.
Chiesa’s Time at Anfield Has Not Met Expectations

When Chiesa joined Liverpool, there was considerable excitement surrounding his arrival; however, his time at the club has failed to gain traction. The 28-year-old struggled for consistent playing time under former manager Arne Slot, failing to start a single Premier League match during the 2026 season. He made just three appearances in Liverpool’s final seven league games and was an unused substitute on four occasions.
Throughout the entire 2025/26 campaign, Chiesa logged only 726 minutes on the pitch—equivalent to just over eight full matches—while contributing three goals and three assists.
Given Liverpool’s depth in attack and the ongoing changes under Iraola, a fresh start seems beneficial for all parties involved. Chiesa remains a talented player capable of making a significant impact in Serie A, but his style has not translated into consistent playing time at Anfield.
Selling him for around £17.5 million would allow Liverpool to recoup a reasonable fee while giving Chiesa an opportunity to rejuvenate his career in a league where he has already demonstrated his quality.
