Newcastle United Eyes Parma Defender Alessandro Circati Ahead of Summer Transfer

Written byFerdous Saeed

Newcastle United has reportedly targeted Parma defender Alessandro Circati as a potential summer acquisition. Following their failure to secure European qualification for the 2026-27 season, the Magpies are set to embark on a significant rebuilding phase, especially with key players like Anthony Gordon possibly departing St James’ Park.

Recent reports suggest that Newcastle is looking to bolster their squad with a new goalkeeper and winger, but it is also expected that manager Eddie Howe will seek to add at least one central defender in the coming weeks.

According to ParmaToday, Circati is firmly on Newcastle’s radar as they prepare for next season.

Newcastle Shows Interest in World Cup Star

The 22-year-old has recently showcased his talent by contributing to Australia’s 2-0 victory over Turkey during the World Cup. Circati entered the tournament following an impressive Serie A season with Parma, where he made 31 appearances.

He is seen as a direct replacement for Giovanni Leoni, who transferred to Liverpool last summer.

Despite having three years left on his contract, Circati is among several key Parma players who may be available for the right price. Selling him would yield a substantial profit for Parma, given that he developed through their academy system.

Circati’s agent, Luca Bascherini, reportedly maintains a strong relationship with Premier League clubs, which could enhance Newcastle’s chances of securing his signature.

Competition Expected for Circati

Circati’s future may not be clarified until after the World Cup, which poses challenges for Newcastle. His contributions have bolstered Australia’s defense, leading to favorable results against established World Cup teams.

In a nine-match stretch against opponents such as New Zealand, Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Switzerland, Australia conceded more than once only once—a 2-1 friendly loss to the USA. If Australia progresses beyond the group stage, Circati’s profile and asking price are likely to rise, potentially positioning Newcastle as underdogs in the race for his transfer.
