Tunisia Football Federation Dismisses Coach Sabri Lamouchi After Heavy Loss to Sweden
The Tunisian Football Federation has announced the dismissal of head coach Sabri Lamouchi following a heavy defeat of 5-1 against Sweden in the opening match of the group stage at the 2026 World Cup.
In an official statement shared on its Instagram account, the federation confirmed that it had reached an agreement to terminate Lamouchi’s contract. It also indicated that procedures are underway to appoint Mondher Kebaier as the interim head coach for the upcoming period.
Tunisia is preparing for a crucial match against Japan next Saturday as part of the group competition, before concluding its first-round matches with a challenging encounter against the Netherlands.
Lamouchi took charge of the Tunisian national team in January but had a brief tenure, overseeing just five matches in which he secured only one victory against Haiti, winning 1-0.
This World Cup marks Lamouchi’s second appearance in the tournament, having previously managed the Ivory Coast team during the 2014 World Cup, where he was eliminated in the group stage.
This decision reflects the Tunisian Football Federation’s efforts to quickly rectify the team’s course and revive hopes of qualifying for the next round after a difficult start to their World Cup campaign.
