Cesar Peixoto Confirmed as Wolves Head Coach Amid Concerns Over Recent Performance
Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially announced the appointment of Cesar Peixoto as their new head coach on a two-year contract. This decision follows the dismissal of Rob Edwards, who was sacked last week after the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
Despite Edwards’s departure occurring four days ago, it has been widely anticipated that Peixoto would take over at Molineux. Although Wolves have indicated that Peixoto is still awaiting a work permit, they have confirmed his role as the club’s manager as they prepare for their return to the Championship.

Peixoto Describes Wolves as a ‘Big Fish’
In his first comments on the club’s official website, Peixoto expressed optimism about both his potential and that of the current squad. He stated, “We have great players, but I think the team can improve a lot with me and I can improve as a technical head coach. I want to put my identity onto the team, build a strong identity at the club and also help the team to grow. This is a big opportunity to show my identity and my way of playing.”.
He emphasized the importance of aligning the team’s performance with the passionate nature of its supporters: “This is an amazing club, and it is important for me to make Wolves play in a way which reflects the fans. It’s a hard-working city with a lot of energy and passion, and I want the team to play like that, with passion and good energy, making our fans happy with our style of play.”.
Peixoto also outlined his vision for success: “Wolves in the Championship is a big fish. We know we need to play well and win games while maintaining an offensive identity. The owners share this vision, so it’s essential for us to build a strong team that plays attractive football and aims for promotion back to the Premier League.”.
He acknowledged that pre-season preparation will be crucial given the challenges of the Championship: “It’s important because of how tough this league is. A good pre-season focusing on physicality and instilling my ideas into players will set us up for success. We need to work as a cohesive unit throughout the season to achieve consistent results.”.

Concerns for Wolves Fans: Three Stats on Peixoto
While Peixoto led Gil Vicente to a sixth-place finish in the 2025-26 Primeira Liga table, his tenure ended on a sour note with only two wins in their last twelve matches. During this stretch, Gil Vicente lost six games and managed just two clean sheets, with their last away victory occurring on February 7.
Additionally, Peixoto’s managerial record shows he has lost 71 out of 164 matches across various roles, never lasting more than 46 games in any position.
