Kieran Trippier Contemplates Future at Wolves After Shock Sacking of Rob Edwards
Kieran Trippier is reportedly weighing the possibility of walking away from his newly signed contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers. The defender, along with Raul Jimenez, was recently signed by the club, which has been relegated from the Premier League. Head coach Rob Edwards played a significant role in the media announcements surrounding their signings.
However, just 36 hours after Jimenez’s unveiling, Wolves announced the unexpected sacking of Edwards following what was described as a comprehensive review of his performance.
According to reports from Portugal, Wolves have been in negotiations for several weeks with Gil Vicente manager Cesar Peixoto, who is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes, known for his connections with Wolves’ owners, Fosun International.
Sky Sports News indicates that Trippier is frustrated by the recent developments. In prior club media appearances, he praised Edwards for his influence in bringing him to Molineux.
Trippier Feels Betrayed by Wolves
Despite his positive remarks about Edwards, reports suggest that plans for a managerial change were already underway. Trippier is said to feel ‘betrayed’ after learning about Edwards’ dismissal from an external source rather than through official channels.
Trippier chose to join Wolves over several other clubs largely due to Edwards’ influence, and this sudden shift has left him contemplating potential legal options as he prepares for the start of his contract on July 1.
Wolves Facing Internal Discontent
The shock decision has reportedly left many players in the Wolves dressing room feeling similarly disillusioned as Trippier. The acquisitions of Trippier and Jimenez—who recently scored for Mexico in their World Cup opener—had generated a positive atmosphere at the club during a challenging time.
Instead, fans have expressed outrage over the timing and manner of Fosun International’s decision-making, which appears to stem more from owner Guo Guangchang than from executive chairman Nathan Shi. With Peixoto’s anticipated appointment, there are expectations that more Mendes-represented players may soon arrive at Molineux. While this strategy proved successful under Nuno Espirito Santo in the 2017-18 season, the current situation feels markedly different.
