Prime Minister Inspects $6 Million Global Advanced Pharmaceuticals Factory

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister of Egypt, along with his delegation, visited the Global Advanced Pharmaceuticals factory during his tour in Sixth of October City, which included the inauguration and inspection of several industrial projects.

During the visit, Madbouly emphasized the government’s commitment to localizing advanced and vital pharmaceutical industries through specialized factories for local production of pharmaceutical raw materials, adhering to international standards and the latest technological systems. This initiative aims to reduce import costs and bolster Egypt’s export capacity in this crucial sector.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, highlighted that the ministry is working to diversify ways to enhance local pharmaceutical production capabilities to achieve drug security. He noted that the Ministry is keen on collaborating with relevant stakeholders to stimulate investment in the pharmaceutical sector, overcome challenges faced by manufacturers, expedite production, expand operations, and provide opportunities for localizing pharmaceutical raw materials.

Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, head of the Egyptian Drug Authority, stated that the authority is committed to supporting cooperation with leading companies in the pharmaceutical industry. He pointed out that Egypt’s market offers a conducive environment and an advanced regulatory framework that positions it as a promising strategic platform for attracting pharmaceutical investments. He noted that Global Group is a pioneering entity in industrial integration within the pharmaceutical sector.

During his inspection, Madbouly received a briefing from Dr. Peter Mahany, Chairman and CEO of Global Advanced Pharmaceuticals. Mahany explained that the factory is one of several under Global Group, which is recognized as a leading pharmaceutical entity in the Middle East and North Africa.

Mahany mentioned that Global Advanced Pharmaceuticals specializes in manufacturing high-efficacy specialty medications, including BFS eye drops, with investments exceeding $6 million.

The CEO affirmed that Global Group represents an integrated industrial and commercial powerhouse employing around 5,000 staff members and producing 370 pharmaceuticals covering 12 therapeutic categories.

He added that the total area occupied by the group spans 119,000 square meters, featuring advanced manufacturing spaces along with warehouses that support supply chain flexibility and research and development laboratories ensuring quality control.

In addition to the factory being inspected today, Mahany highlighted other specialized facilities within Global Group such as Global NAPI Pharmaceuticals—focused on general formulations (solid, semi-solid, liquids) with investments exceeding $5 million—and Global Pharmaceutical Industries for sterile injections (ampoules and vials) with over $15 million in investments.

The Chairman also underscored the group’s export capabilities. He stated that Global Group aims to convert local production capacities into extensive international presence with export agreements spanning over 40 countries and total exports reaching $10 million—reflecting strong international demand and competitive global export capabilities.

Mahany discussed plans for doubling production capacities and strategic expansion investments targeting enhancements in packaging, encapsulation, and filling processes in the upcoming period.

He confirmed that Global Group has obtained ISO quality certifications along with various global accreditations such as European GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).

Furthermore, Mahany noted that Global Group has gained trust from multinational companies over its 30-year history as a reliable partner for localization projects and contract manufacturing for major global firms including Abbott, STADA, Pfizer, Organon, Sanofi, and Opella.

He also reviewed the comprehensive ecosystem established to ensure overall quality within the group’s operations which includes risk management policies integrated into daily procedures along with CAPA (Corrective And Preventive Actions) based on data verification processes across all systems and equipment.

In light of this visit, Prime Minister Madbouly examined various components of the factory including partitioning areas; capsule pressing zones; preparation; mixing processes; solid capsule filling; tablet packaging; and carton wrapping.
