Bursaid University President Discusses International Partnership with Chinese Delegation

Dr. Sherif Youssef Saleh, President of Bursaid University, welcomed a delegation from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) – Guangzhou Campus, a prestigious institution ranked among the top global universities. The meeting aimed to explore avenues for academic and research collaboration between the two institutions and to prepare for the signing of a future strategic partnership agreement.

This visit aligns with Bursaid University’s commitment to expanding its international network with leading educational institutions worldwide, facilitating the exchange of scientific and academic expertise, supporting research programs, and providing exceptional educational and training opportunities for students and researchers.

The Chinese delegation began their visit with an extensive meeting involving several faculty members from the Colleges of Engineering and Commerce. Attendees included Dr. Mohamed Kamel, Supervisor of Community Service and Environmental Development Sector, Dr. Heba Youssef Suleiman, Director of the University Career Development Center and Head of Training Unit, Dr. Ihab El-Hanfi, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Assistant Professor Dr. Mohamed El-Bahiri, Coordinator for International Relations with Chinese Universities, along with several members of the university’s international relations team.

The HKUST delegation comprised Dr. Ge Lin Kan, Head of the Urban Governance and Design Group; Assistant Professor Wufan Zhao, an expert in urban governance and design; Assistant Professor Xiaofeng Liu in the same field; and Ms. Lidong Rao, Africa Coordinator in the Global Affairs Department.

During their discussions, both sides engaged in fruitful conversations regarding collaboration opportunities in urban governance and financial technology (FinTech), as well as exploring joint research projects, faculty and student exchanges, and developing academic programs that align with sustainable development goals.

The delegation also toured the University Career Development Center to observe its advanced training capabilities and technology offerings. They received a detailed briefing from the center’s director about its programs aimed at preparing students for local and international job markets.

The HKUST delegation praised Bursaid University’s notable progress across various academic and research sectors, commending the high quality of presentations and available resources. They expressed their eagerness to establish an effective academic and research partnership that would contribute to achieving both universities’ goals while enhancing international scientific collaboration.

The visit concluded with a meeting between Dr. Sherif Youssef Saleh and the Chinese delegation where commemorative plaques were exchanged as a testament to their growing academic relationship. They also discussed necessary steps to finalize a joint cooperation agreement in the near future.

Dr. Saleh expressed his delight at hosting the HKUST delegation, noting that this visit reflects Bursaid University’s increasing prominence on the international academic stage.

In his address, Dr. Ge Lin Kan remarked:.

“We were impressed by what we saw in terms of human resources, academic capabilities, and promising infrastructure. We see numerous common fields that can form the basis for a successful partnership between our institutions—especially in urban governance, financial technology, and interdisciplinary scientific research.”.

“We affirm HKUST’s desire to develop long-term cooperative relationships with Bursaid University that will mutually benefit students, researchers, faculty members while supporting innovation and scientific advancement at both regional and international levels.”.
