Egypt’s Higher Education Minister Discusses Mediterranean University Development and Industry Collaboration

Dr. Abdelaziz Qonswa, Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, convened a meeting with Dr. Maher Mosbah, Secretary of the Council of Private Universities, to discuss the latest developments regarding the establishment of the Mediterranean University in Alexandria. The meeting included representatives from the Board of Trustees and the company responsible for constructing the university.

During the meeting, Dr. Qonswa emphasized that expanding higher education aligns with Egypt’s strategy to become a leading educational hub in the region. He highlighted the importance of adhering to quality standards and innovation while updating curricula to meet technological advancements and developmental needs. The goal is to prepare graduates equipped with essential skills for the job market while fostering international partnerships with reputable universities.

He also stressed the need for interdisciplinary programs and enhancing applied scientific research by linking research projects and graduation theses to industrial and developmental needs. This approach aims to produce practical research outputs that have economic and developmental impacts while supporting young researchers and encouraging innovation.

The meeting also reviewed updates on the Mediterranean University’s establishment, with Dr. Qonswa noting its strategic location in Alexandria, which offers opportunities for international academic collaboration. He followed up on the progress of the university hospital’s construction, emphasizing adherence to quality standards and accreditation for university hospitals.

Dr. Qonswa reiterated the importance of enhancing the university’s role in community service and environmental development by leveraging its scientific expertise to support regional developmental needs. Attendees discussed recent developments related to both the university and hospital projects that aim to integrate educational and health services in the area.

The Mediterranean University will be located in Al-Siyouf area of Alexandria and will initially include six faculties: Medicine, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, as well as Business Administration and Economics. This will form a comprehensive academic system offering bachelor’s degrees, professional diplomas, and postgraduate studies following modern educational and research systems.

Participants in the meeting included Engineer Ahmed Lotfi Suleiman, CEO of LDV Development Company; Ihab Abu Talib, Head of Finance at LDV; and Dr. Sherin Helmy, Board Member of LDV Development Company and member of the Mediterranean University Board of Trustees.
