Warning Issued for Social Housing Beneficiaries Over Contract Compliance

Eng. Mai Abdel Hamid, head of the Social Housing Fund, addressed the withdrawal of social housing units and the cancellation of allocations after a ten-day period. She explained that beneficiaries must complete several procedures before signing the financing contract, after which they are expected to receive their residential units.
During her appearance on the “Current Events” program broadcasted on Extra News, hosted by journalist Khaloud Zahran, she noted, “We have observed that some citizens receive the contract and believe that the process is complete, thinking they fully own the apartment. This leads them to think they can collect it at any time, which contradicts the obligations agreed upon when signing the financing contract, as outlined in the conditions booklet.”.
She continued, stating, “The client is expected to reside in the unit regularly and permanently since this housing is provided by the state for those who need immediate and genuine housing solutions, not for investment purposes or to keep it unused.”.
Abdel Hamid emphasized that this initiative is heavily supported as part of social protection programs and targets specific groups based on defined criteria, including income levels, lack of ownership of another residential unit, and previous non-participation in similar housing programs. Therefore, it is natural for beneficiaries to be eager to move into their units as soon as they complete the necessary procedures and receive their contracts.
When asked about extending the deadline again, she stated that this marks the third or fourth extension granted to beneficiaries. She added, “We are discussing cases that have exceeded a full year without receiving their unit; these individuals have already been given multiple opportunities. Therefore, we urge these citizens to collect their housing units before June 30, as per the announced deadline.”.
