The QS World University Rankings has released its global rankings for 2027, listing 18 Egyptian universities and higher education institutions among those recognized worldwide.

This achievement aligns with the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to enhance the global standing of Egyptian universities, boost their academic and research competitiveness, and expand international cooperation, thereby supporting the higher education system and contributing to sustainable development goals.

The rankings revealed that Cairo University is positioned at 363rd globally, followed by the American University in Cairo at 390th, and Ain Shams University at 551st. This places three Egyptian universities within the top 600 worldwide.

Additionally, Alexandria University and the Japanese University of Science and Technology in Egypt are ranked between 801 and 850 globally, marking a significant debut for the Japanese university in this ranking due to its strong performance in research indicators, particularly citation rates per faculty member.

Future University in Egypt has been placed in the range of 951 to 1000 globally.

In total, six Egyptian universities are now listed among the top 1000 worldwide.

Furthermore, Al-Azhar University, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, Assiut University, and Mansoura University have been ranked between 1001 and 1200 globally.

In the category of 1201 to 1400 globally, Beni Suef University, the British University in Egypt, Capital University, Delta University for Science and Technology, and Zagazig University were included.

Benha University, the German University in Cairo, and Tanta University are ranked above 1401 globally.

Dr. Abdelaziz Qansoua, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, praised these results achieved by Egyptian universities in this ranking. He emphasized the importance of continuing organized institutional work on international rankings through support for high-quality scientific publishing, enhancing research impact and citations, boosting academic reputation internationally, expanding international research collaboration networks, improving employment indicators, attracting international students and faculty members, as well as documenting sustainability efforts according to international standards.

The minister congratulated the universities included in the rankings and commended their efforts towards continuous development within Egypt’s higher education system. He noted that the state places great importance on enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian universities while aligning their educational and research outputs with international standards to establish Egypt as a regional hub for higher education and innovation.

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the continued appearance of Egyptian universities in QS rankings reflects successful efforts aimed at developing academic and research environments while supporting international scientific publishing. He highlighted that the ministry continues to provide technical support to universities regarding international ranking issues to improve institutional performance indicators and elevate global competitiveness among Egyptian universities.

This year’s QS World University Rankings included results from a total of 1504 higher education institutions worldwide after evaluating 8808 institutions across 106 countries.

The QS World University Rankings is one of the most prominent international academic rankings published annually by Quacquarelli Symonds. It relies on several indicators measuring academic reputation (30%), citations per faculty member (20%), employer reputation (15%), faculty-to-student ratio (10%), along with indicators for international faculty members, international students, research network quality, employment outcomes, and sustainability (5% each).

Moreover, it is important to note the role of Egypt’s Knowledge Bank in providing vast scientific resources necessary for researchers and decision-makers to enhance scientific research in Egypt. This initiative aims to enable research institutions to gain global recognition while contributing to improving university rankings internationally through efforts made by classification teams within Egyptian universities monitoring QS global ranking criteria—aligning with Egypt’s Vision for Sustainable Development 2030.
