Minister Manal Awad Conducts Field Visits to Boost Green Energy from Animal Waste
The technical team from the Bioenergy for Sustainable Development Foundation, affiliated with the Ministry of Local Development and Environment, has conducted two field visits in the governorates of Assiut and Beheira. These visits aimed to inspect proposed beneficiary sites and assess their technical and environmental readiness for the establishment of biogas units.
This initiative is part of directives from Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, to support green energy projects and enhance environmental sustainability concepts. It aligns with the activities of the project “Addressing Climate Change through Sustainable Management of Livestock.”.
Dr. Manal Awad emphasized that these visits support the country’s shift towards green transformation, maximizing the benefits from animal waste, reducing carbon emissions, and improving natural resource management efficiency, which will positively impact farmers and rural communities.
Additionally, the Minister noted that these visits are part of the fourth component of the “Addressing Climate Change through Sustainable Management of Livestock” project, which is implemented in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, with funding from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation under a grant provided by the Italian government.
The fourth component aims to test and enhance green energy production by converting animal waste into biogas. This will involve a comprehensive feasibility assessment for biogas units, including cost-benefit analysis for both small and large enterprises. It will also identify beneficiaries among livestock producers and design necessary technical requirements for implementation in coordination with governmental and private entities to ensure effective application mechanisms.
During these visits, the technical team examined beneficiary sites in Assiut selected by FAO. They assessed compliance with the necessary technical and environmental criteria for establishing biogas units to determine site readiness for actual implementation and ensure that all required conditions are met before commencing work.
The Bioenergy for Sustainable Development Foundation continues its efforts to support and promote biogas technologies across various governorates while expanding bioenergy projects that enhance the utilization of agricultural and animal waste. This contributes to national efforts towards green transformation and achieving sustainable development.
