Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, attended the annual conference celebrating the 10th anniversary of Shifa Orman Hospital, dedicated to cancer treatment in Luxor.

The event was graced by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, several governors, and leaders from the Orman Association, including Chairman Ahmed El-Gendy and Dr. Khaled El-Nouri, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Shifa Orman Foundation. Representatives from civil society and several national banks, including the Central Bank of Egypt, were also present.

Dr. Awad expressed her appreciation to Engineer Hossam El-Qabbani, Chairman of the Orman Association, for his efforts in various charitable activities across different governorates. She noted her collaboration with the association over the past 12 years in delivering significant services to citizens.

She conveyed her happiness to participate in this important humanitarian celebration marking a decade since the establishment of Shifa Orman Hospital in Luxor. She emphasized that this milestone represents not just numbers but tangible efforts made to alleviate suffering for patients—both adults and children—in Upper Egypt.

Dr. Awad described Shifa Orman Hospital as a successful model showcasing civic engagement and community service in Egypt. The hospital has provided comprehensive and free medical services at high standards to those in need while lifting the burden of travel and exorbitant treatment costs from thousands of families in Upper Egypt.

She highlighted that the role of the Ministry of Local Development and Environment complements the work done by diligent civil society organizations. The minister emphasized that true development in local communities begins with focusing on people’s health and well-being. Major medical projects like Shifa Orman Hospital contribute significantly to improving quality of life for residents and are essential partners for the state in building a strong and healthy community.

Looking ahead, Dr. Awad stated that they are not only reflecting on past achievements over the last ten years but are also focused on future aspirations for continued contributions to medical services and enhancing healthcare systems for cancer patients in Upper Egypt.

She extended her heartfelt gratitude to all those involved in this initiative—the Board of Trustees at Shifa Orman Foundation and the Orman Association—for their management and ongoing efforts. She also acknowledged doctors, nursing staff, and all workers who tirelessly strive daily for patient comfort and hope for recovery. She wished success to the Orman Association and speedy recovery for all patients.

During the celebration, a documentary film was presented about the Orman Foundation featuring inspiring success stories from cancer fighters in Upper Egypt alongside speeches from the Board Chairman of Shifa Orman Foundation and attending ministers.
