Tottenham Plans £100 Million Double Transfer from Brighton Under De Zerbi

Tottenham Hotspur is gearing up for a significant summer overhaul after ensuring their Premier League survival under manager Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian coach is expected to receive considerable support from the club’s leadership, with multiple new signings already in the works.

Among the top targets are two players that De Zerbi is intimately familiar with from his tenure at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The club is reportedly considering ambitious bids for Brighton players Bart Verbruggen and Jan Paul van Hecke as part of a major squad restructuring ahead of the new season, according to TEAMtalk. Spurs had previously conducted extensive scouting on both Dutch internationals even before De Zerbi’s appointment, but his appreciation for their talents has intensified the club’s interest.

Internally, Verbruggen and Van Hecke are seen as potential long-term cornerstones for Tottenham. However, any potential deal is expected to be costly, with Brighton likely to demand around £50 million each, totaling approximately £100 million.

De Zerbi has closely collaborated with both players during his time on the south coast and believes they possess the necessary mentality, technical skills, and Premier League experience to facilitate Tottenham’s rebuilding efforts.

While Spurs remain hopeful that Brighton may be open to negotiations, the Seagulls are under no obligation to sell either player this summer.

The pursuit of Van Hecke and Verbruggen hints at how Tottenham’s roster may evolve in the coming months. Atletico Madrid is reportedly interested in signing the Argentine defender, and Tottenham may consider selling him if their asking price is met.

Van Hecke would be a sensible replacement; at 25 years old, he is emerging as one of the league’s most dependable defenders. Unlike an untested foreign prospect, he would arrive acclimatized to English football and already well-versed in De Zerbi’s tactical approach.

The goalkeeping situation suggests a similar shift, with Guglielmo Vicario likely set to return to Italy. Spurs are in search of a new long-term first-choice goalkeeper, and Verbruggen has emerged as a frontrunner for that role.

Although Antonin Kinsky showed promise towards the end of the season, Verbruggen is viewed as a more rounded option capable of becoming Tottenham’s go-to goalkeeper for years to come. His composure on the ball and ability to play out from the back align perfectly with De Zerbi’s preferred style of play.

The potential acquisitions of Van Hecke and Verbruggen would mark a strategic shift towards proven Premier League talent rather than developmental projects. If Romero and Vicario depart, their replacements would minimize risk while providing De Zerbi with players he knows well and trusts.
