Liverpool Unlikely to Pursue Micky van de Ven Amid Spurs’ Defensive Additions

Written byFerdous Saeed

Liverpool has reportedly no plans to pursue Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven, despite recent developments in the transfer market.

The club is currently evaluating its central-defensive options following Ibrahima Konate’s transfer to Real Madrid. While Jeremy Jacquet is set to join from Rennes this summer, the departure of Andrew Robertson to Tottenham may also prompt Liverpool to seek a new left-back, contingent on Kostas Tsimikas’s future.

Van de Ven is presently representing the Netherlands at the World Cup and is scheduled to start Saturday’s match against Sweden. Unless there are changes in personnel or tactics from coach Ronald Koeman, he will be positioned at left-back for this crucial Group F clash.

Liverpool Not Actively Pursuing Van de Ven

According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook on X, Liverpool currently has no intention of making a move for the 25-year-old defender. Meanwhile, Tottenham has finalized a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Jan Paul van Hecke—another Dutch player—bringing their total new defensive signings this summer to three.

This influx of defenders at Spurs may open the door for interest in Van de Ven, who has been associated with several top clubs. However, reports indicate that Liverpool is ‘not actively pursuing’ him at this time.

During his three seasons with Spurs, Van de Ven has scored 10 goals and provided three assists across 96 appearances in all competitions. Despite facing injury challenges previously, he managed to play 35 matches in the Premier League during the 2025-26 season.

Potential Shift in Liverpool’s Position?

If it becomes evident that Van de Ven could leave Spurs this summer, Liverpool might reconsider their position. The team requires a long-term successor for Virgil van Dijk, another of Van de Ven’s international teammates.

If Van Dijk—who is approaching 35—were to depart Anfield within the next year, Van de Ven could integrate smoothly into Liverpool’s defense. However, much will depend on the transfer fee; Liverpool would likely need to exceed £60 million to secure a player of Van de Ven’s caliber, who has three years remaining on his contract.
