Local Development Minister Meets Cairo Governor to Enhance Citizen Services
Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, welcomed Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, at the ministry’s headquarters in the new capital. This meeting is part of the minister’s regular consultations with governors to monitor developmental and service-related issues impacting citizens’ lives, as well as to implement directives from political leadership and the Prime Minister aimed at improving services for residents of the capital.
The Minister and the Governor discussed the cleanliness efforts in the capital, focusing on the contributions of private sector companies managing services in both eastern and western regions, alongside the General Authority for Cleaning and Beautification of Cairo. They emphasized enhancing waste collection, transportation, recycling processes, and safe disposal practices to improve overall cleanliness in streets, squares, and residential areas, particularly those with high population densities.
The Governor highlighted recent significant efforts to combat illegal construction without permits, mentioning the removal of numerous violations in coordination with relevant authorities from the Ministry of Interior. He noted that this initiative involves close monitoring by himself and other executive leaders in the governorate to uphold state authority and enforce laws decisively against detected infractions.
Dr. Manal Awad praised the governorate’s efforts in this area and urged continuous monitoring of any illegal spatial changes that might arise, emphasizing immediate action for their removal in collaboration with concerned agencies.
The meeting also addressed ongoing reconciliation processes regarding building violations in Cairo, discussing progress rates for reviewing applications submitted by citizens. They explored mechanisms to simplify procedures and assist individuals seeking to regularize their situations according to legal provisions.
Additionally, they reviewed implementation rates for investment projects outlined in the current fiscal year’s plan across infrastructure sectors, road improvements, environmental enhancement, and local services. The goal is to adhere to timelines that maximize benefits from investments directed toward developmental projects serving residents.
The meeting included updates on phase two of the development project for Al-Attaba Market in Al-Mosky area, which is being funded by the ministry in collaboration with the governorate. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance commercial markets and prioritized areas while improving urban quality and infrastructure services.
Efforts to develop several areas within Heliopolis were also discussed as part of a national plan aimed at preserving the unique architectural character of the region while enhancing service levels and improving street conditions.
Dr. Manal Awad reiterated her ministry’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with Cairo Governorate to fulfill political leadership directives across various service-related and developmental files. She commended executive agencies within the governorate for effectively addressing diverse challenges while achieving tangible progress on several key issues.
Dr. Ibrahim Saber confirmed that the governorate will continue monitoring compliance with directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and instructions from the Prime Minister concerning numerous national projects underway in the capital. He emphasized comprehensive coordination with the Ministry of Local Development and Environment to advance developmental initiatives impacting residents’ lives and significantly improve service levels across different neighborhoods in Cairo.
