Majority of Tottenham Fans Favor Selling Cristian Romero This Summer

Written byFerdous Saeed

A significant 95% of Tottenham Hotspur fans believe that club captain Cristian Romero should be sold during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Argentine defender has established a solid reputation in North London, taking over the captaincy last summer following Son Heung-min’s departure. Under his leadership, Tottenham clinched the Europa League title in the 2024-25 season, with Romero contributing six goals and four assists across 32 matches during the 2025-26 campaign, including crucial goals against Newcastle United and Burnley.

However, Romero’s disciplinary issues have resurfaced; the 28-year-old received two red cards and 11 yellow cards before a serious knee injury ended his season prematurely. His decision to return to Argentina prior to Spurs’ pivotal final match against Everton did not sit well with fans, though he managed to return in time to see his team secure their Premier League status.

In a recent poll conducted by Sports Mole, an overwhelming majority of respondents voted for Romero to depart the club this summer. Although he signed a contract extension until 2029 last year, a summer sale could potentially allow Spurs to profit from the £46.5 million they spent acquiring him from Atalanta BC.

Earlier this month, Manchester United was rumored to be considering a move for Romero; however, they are not currently viewed as serious contenders for his signature this summer.

Romero has scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in 156 appearances for Tottenham and recently returned from injury to start in Argentina’s impressive 3-0 World Cup victory over Algeria.

Following Tottenham’s second consecutive finish in 17th place in the Premier League, fans have expressed a desire to see several players offloaded ahead of the new season. In total, Romero was among 13 players who received more votes for ‘sell’ than ‘keep’, with six players supported for departure by over 90% of respondents. This group includes Guglielmo Vicario (96%), Radu Dragusin (97%), Richarlison (92%), Manor Solomon (94%), and Alejo Veliz (94%).

Younger players Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine also faced calls for their sale from 75% of supporters each. Additionally, Ashley Phillips (55%), Pape Sarr (58%), Yang Min-hyeok (58%), Dominic Solanke (57%), and Kota Takai (58%) were identified as candidates for transfer.

The remaining members of the squad garnered more votes for ‘keep’ than ‘sell’, although Mathys Tel received only a narrow majority of support at 54%. Conversely, an impressive 98% of fans wish for goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to remain with the club, while Mohammed Kudus, Archie Gray, and Micky van de Ven also enjoyed strong backing above 95% for retention.
