Mohsen Saleh Warns of Challenges Ahead for New Al Ahly Coach Hossam Ammouta

Written byFerdous Saeed

Mohsen Saleh, a former member of the Al Ahly planning committee, has expressed concerns regarding certain aspects of the personality of the club’s new head coach, Moroccan Hossam Ammouta. He cautioned that challenges may arise during Ammouta’s tenure with the Red Devils.

Al Ahly announced last Monday that it had signed Hossam Ammouta to lead the team for two seasons, succeeding Danish coach Jes Torup, who was dismissed.

In statements made on On Sport Radio, Saleh said, “My testimony regarding Ammouta might be biased as I know him well. He is an exceptional coach who has achieved significant success and deserves the opportunity to manage Al Ahly.”.

He added, “However, he will need to exhibit a great deal of flexibility since he tends to be quick-tempered. This could place him in difficult situations with players, referees, or even the administrative staff, especially considering that Al Ahly’s dressing room is filled with numerous stars.”.

Saleh emphasized the importance of Ammouta utilizing the upcoming training camp to build rapport with the players, noting that fostering a good relationship within the team is crucial—unlike the previous coach Torup, who did not focus adequately on this aspect.

He continued, “There is also immense pressure at Al Ahly; fans demand not only victories but also convincing performances. Any win without a strong showing may not be acceptable to them.”.

In conclusion, Saleh remarked, “I would have preferred hiring an Egyptian coach; had I been part of the planning committee, I would have chosen Emad Nassar. However, I wish Hossam Ammouta all the best in his new role.”.
