Leeds United Eyes Shea Charles as Summer Transfer Target

Written byFerdous Saeed

Leeds United is reportedly considering a move for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles this summer.

After finishing 14th in the Premier League during the 2025-26 season, manager Daniel Farke’s squad is gearing up for an active summer transfer window, aiming to strengthen their roster.

Following a successful tactical shift mid-season, Leeds avoided relegation concerns and outperformed teams like West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.

With ambitions to break into the top half of the Premier League next season, Leeds is looking to enhance their squad. They are also interested in Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, although they face stiff competition for the England international, who is currently participating in the World Cup in the United States with Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Leeds Considering Bid for Charles

The Daily Mail reports that Leeds has identified midfield as a key area for improvement this summer as they prepare for the new season.

The club is particularly interested in acquiring Southampton’s Shea Charles, who scored three goals and provided two assists during last season’s Championship campaign.

Charles is valued at £20 million by Southampton, although it remains uncertain whether the club would accept a lower offer this summer.

In addition to Charles, Leeds has shown interest in Sporting Lisbon veteran Hidemasa Morita. However, the 30-year-old does not align with Leeds’ strategy of targeting younger players with potential resale value.

Charles’s Playoff Journey

Shea Charles played a crucial role in Southampton’s playoff campaign, scoring the decisive goal in the second leg against Middlesbrough at St Mary’s Stadium. This victory initially set his team on course for promotion.

However, Southampton’s hopes were dashed when they were expelled from the playoff final at Wembley Stadium due to EFL sanctions related to spying on opponents’ training sessions.

This unfortunate turn of events denied Charles a chance to compete in the Premier League next season, but Leeds United could provide him with that opportunity moving forward.
