Weather Alert: Dust and Sandstorm From Northern Sudan Expected to Impact Egypt Today
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority has issued a warning regarding significant weather phenomena expected to affect the country’s climate today, Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
In a post on its official Facebook page, the authority indicated that hot and humid weather is anticipated in northern regions, including Greater Cairo, while southern areas will experience extremely hot conditions. At night, the weather is expected to be moderate and humid across most regions but slightly warm in Upper Egypt.
The forecast also predicts morning fog on several roads leading to and from northern areas to Greater Cairo, the canal cities, Central Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt. This fog could be dense at times on certain routes.
The authority noted that there will be active winds in parts of Greater Cairo, South Sinai, the Red Sea Governorate, and northern Upper Egypt at intermittent intervals. There is a possibility of dust and sandstorms originating from northern Sudan affecting areas such as Halayeb and Shalatin, which may lead to reduced horizontal visibility.
Conditions in the Mediterranean Sea are expected to be slight to moderate with wave heights ranging from 1 meter to 1.75 meters and winds blowing from the northeast.
In contrast, the Red Sea will experience moderate to rough conditions with wave heights between 1.5 meters and 2.5 meters, with winds coming from the northwest.
For the Suez Gulf area, conditions will be moderate to rough with wave heights ranging from 2 meters to 2.5 meters and winds blowing from the northwest.
