اجتماع الرئيس السيسي.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi convened a meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker.

During the meeting, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the presidency, reported that they reviewed the implementation status of the second phase of projects aimed at strengthening the national electricity grid.

The Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy highlighted that the total number of projects in this phase amounts to approximately 105, providing an update on their current status.

The minister also discussed the connection of renewable energy projects to the electrical grid by 2027, focusing on solar and wind energy.

President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of improving electric supply quality, enhancing the efficiency of conventional fuel use, and ensuring stability in the national grid. He stressed adherence to the specified timeline for project implementation and their integration into the grid, supporting national efforts towards energy transition and sustainable development.

Additionally, Ambassador El-Shenawy noted that the meeting included discussions on implementing solar energy projects and energy storage batteries within a timeline aimed at increasing renewable energy’s contribution to 45% over the next two years. This also involves expanding the establishment of energy storage facilities connected to the grid as well as independent stations.

In this context, Minister Mohamed Shaker detailed operations for phase one of the Obelisk solar power station, which has a capacity of 500 megawatts, along with a connected energy storage facility with a capacity of 200 megawatt-hours that was integrated into the grid earlier this year. He also provided updates on phase two of this station, set to add another 500 megawatts to be linked to the grid in the coming weeks as part of plans for incorporating new solar and wind capacities this summer.

The president stressed the need for regular monitoring and review of renewable energy projects during both operational phases and implementation stages. He directed continued collaboration with all relevant institutions in the state and partnerships with local and foreign private sectors involved in executing projects within the framework of the national energy strategy. This includes developing solar, wind energy projects and energy storage systems using local currency.

President El-Sisi also underscored the necessity for expanding energy storage systems to maximize benefits from renewable energies while ensuring grid stability.

The spokesperson further mentioned that during the meeting, Minister Shaker reviewed developments regarding the “Energy Valley” project—one of the largest integrated clean energy projects globally—which will generate 1.7 gigawatts from photovoltaic solar power entirely in Minya Governorate. This project is supported by battery storage systems totaling 4 gigawatt-hours distributed across Minya, Qena, and Alexandria governorates.

In this context, President El-Sisi highlighted these projects’ significance in bolstering plans within electricity and renewable energy sectors to promote renewable energy use, reduce carbon emissions, and diversify energy sources. He emphasized that localizing industries related to renewable energies is a fundamental pillar for enhancing energy security and achieving a green transition.
