Sisi Affirms Egypt’s Full Support for Nabil Fahmy’s Candidacy as Arab League Secretary-General

On Sunday, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Nabil Fahmy, the candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the egypts-commitment-to-supporting-the-arab-league/">Arab League.

The official spokesperson for the presidency stated that President El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s full support for Fahmy’s candidacy. He highlighted the unprecedented challenges facing the region, which necessitate strengthening the framework of joint Arab action and enhancing the role of the Arab League as the essential umbrella for defending the interests of Arab nations and peoples.

Ambassador Mohamed Shenawy, the official spokesperson, added that Fahmy expressed his deep appreciation for President El-Sisi’s support. He affirmed his eagerness to work on enhancing the performance of the Arab League and to formulate an advanced strategic vision that aligns with the significant challenges facing Arab national security. He also stressed his belief in the importance of bolstering the League’s role in both economic and social spheres to fulfill its intended purpose.

During their meeting, President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s commitment to playing constructive roles that promote peaceful solutions to regional crises. He pointed out the increasing number of conflict hotspots and escalating violations of international law, which impose severe implications on comprehensive Arab national security. This situation amplifies the responsibilities of the Arab League, particularly regarding the need to develop its tools to address regional transformations and formulate more effective and inclusive collective Arab positions.
