The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a phone call today between Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Hussein Sheikh, Deputy Head of the State of Palestine. This communication is part of ongoing consultations regarding the developments in the Palestinian territories.
According to Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussion focused on efforts to implement the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan. This includes ensuring sustainable access to humanitarian aid in Gaza and deploying an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire and facilitate aid delivery. Additionally, it aims to enable the National Committee for Gaza to operate within the territory until the Palestinian Authority can fully assume its responsibilities, thereby fostering stability and preparing conditions for subsequent phases of peace negotiations.
The conversation also addressed alarming developments in the West Bank. Minister Abdel Aty condemned the increasing pace of settlement activities and ongoing Israeli violations in East Jerusalem and at Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning of their implications for peace and stability in the region.
During the call, the Foreign Minister reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to establish an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He emphasized the need to empower the Palestinian Authority to fulfill its responsibilities and maintain territorial unity between Gaza and the West Bank, viewing this as fundamental to achieving a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue.
For his part, Hussein Sheikh expressed appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause and its continuous efforts to de-escalate tensions and alleviate humanitarian suffering. He stressed the importance of ongoing coordination and consultation in the upcoming period.
