Egypt’s Fatwa Authority Emphasizes Importance of Earning Through Halal Means
The Egyptian Fatwa Authority has reiterated that Islamic law permits lawful earnings based on mutual consent and a clear conscience. It encourages the pursuit of halal income while warning against forbidden means of quick gain and their negative consequences on individuals and society.
The authority emphasized that Muslims are accountable to God regarding the sources of their wealth and how they spend it. This was highlighted through a saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “The feet of the son of Adam will not move on the Day of Judgment until he is asked about five things,” among which is, “…and about his wealth: where did he earn it, and how did he spend it?”.
Furthermore, the Fatwa Authority stressed the importance of ensuring halal practices in financial transactions and avoiding any forms of unlawful earnings, as this contributes to achieving blessings, stability, and righteousness within individuals and communities.
