Egypt’s Fatwa Authority: Wash Entire Garment if Source of Impurity is Unknown

Written byNoha El Shafie

The Egyptian Fatwa Authority has emphasized that maintaining purity of clothing, body, and space is essential for the validity of prayer. The Authority stated that removing impurities is obligatory when one has the ability to do so.

According to the Fatwa, if an individual knows the specific location of impurity on their clothing or body, they must wash that area thoroughly before performing prayers. However, if the impurity is hidden and its exact location cannot be identified, it is required to wash the entire affected part of the body and the entire garment if the specific area cannot be determined. This ensures that the necessary purity for valid prayer is achieved.

The Fatwa Authority highlighted that Islamic law aims to ensure cleanliness while alleviating burdens on individuals, stressing the importance of taking necessary measures to confirm the removal of impurities before engaging in prayer.
