Written byFerdous Saeed

William Saliba, the French defender for Arsenal, revealed that his team faced significant criticism and mockery during their fierce competition for the Premier League title. He emphasized that the only way to respond to such pressures was by securing victories on the pitch.

Arsenal clinched the Premier League title after a hard-fought battle with Manchester City, ending a 22-year drought without a trophy and re-establishing the club’s prominence in English football.

In an interview with French newspaper Lequipe, Saliba noted that doubts surrounded the team even while they were at the top of the league standings. He mentioned that some anticipated the team’s collapse at any moment, predicting they would finish in second place as they had in previous seasons.

The French defender pointed out that the nature of competition in the Premier League inherently brings pressure as part of the game. He asserted that the true response to all criticism lies not in words but in delivering results on the field.

Saliba reflected on his first two seasons with Arsenal, stating that while the team started strongly and deserved to win, they faced ridicule despite finishing second in the league.

He indicated that while their second season continued to showcase good performance, it was less stable than the first. Nevertheless, finishing as runners-up further fueled the team’s desire to correct their course in subsequent seasons.

Concluding his remarks, Saliba affirmed that Arsenal does not rely solely on aggression or physicality as some might believe. Instead, he highlighted that they play an organized style of football focused on passing and build-up play. He reiterated that winning the title was a fitting response to all criticisms directed at the team.
