Egypt’s Labor Minister Discusses Cooperation with Omani Counterpart in Geneva

During the 114th International Labour Conference held in Geneva, Egypt’s Minister of Labor, Hassan Raddad, met with his Omani counterpart, Dr. Mahad bin Saeed Ba’awain. The meeting aimed to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchange expertise on various labor-related issues.

The two ministers discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between Egypt and Oman in several areas of mutual interest, including employment, social protection, occupational health and safety, vocational training, and the development of human resources. They also explored mechanisms for sharing successful experiences and activating technical cooperation between their ministries to improve labor markets and enhance workforce efficiency in both countries.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and consultation on issues related to the future of work, the development of employment policies, and support for vocational training programs that align with rapid changes in regional and international labor markets.

Additionally, Minister Raddad participated in a high-level event organized by the Ministry of Labor of Oman to officially launch the report titled “Redesigning the Social Protection System in Oman.” This event took place at Maison de la Paix in Geneva and was attended by several ministers, ambassadors, representatives from international organizations, experts, and academics.

The report highlighted Oman’s experience in developing a more inclusive and sustainable social protection system that enhances the effectiveness of support programs while reinforcing social justice principles. It aims to provide comprehensive protection for various deserving groups in response to economic and social changes as well as sustainable development requirements.

This participation reflects Minister Raddad’s commitment to monitoring leading international and regional practices in social protection and labor markets while leveraging successful experiences to support Egypt’s efforts in enhancing social protection, providing decent work opportunities, and achieving sustainable development goals.
