Egyptian Fatwa Authority.

The Egyptian Fatwa Authority has clarified that humor and light-heartedness with others is generally permissible and can be recommended when the intention is to bring joy, comfort, and companionship to people.

The authority emphasized that making Muslims happy is a beloved act in the eyes of God, citing a hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “The most beloved deeds to God are those that bring joy to a Muslim.”.

It stressed that permissible humor must adhere to specific religious guidelines, prohibiting any elements of deceit, causing fear, or using obscene language. Additionally, it should not involve gossip, slander, or mockery.

The Fatwa Authority noted that humor crosses the line into excess when it becomes habitual or causes harm to others, referencing the Prophet’s saying: “It is not lawful for a Muslim to frighten another Muslim.”.

Ultimately, the authority underscored that acceptable humor should balance cheerfulness with good character and respect for others’ feelings, ensuring it does not violate religious boundaries or harm individuals.
