Alternative Routes Announced During October Bridge Repairs in Cairo
The General Traffic Department of Cairo has begun maintenance and upgrades on the expansion joints of the October Bridge in both directions, specifically from the area above Al-Nour Mosque in Abbassia to the Damardash area.
The maintenance work and accompanying traffic diversions are expected to continue until 6 AM on Saturday, with a significant presence of traffic services to ensure smooth vehicle movement.
To prevent congestion and facilitate traffic flow, the General Traffic Department has deployed necessary traffic services to address any expected crowding. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes based on their destinations as follows:.
1. For Those Coming from Cairo Heading to Giza and Downtown
From Nasr City and Ramses Extension: It is recommended to use the ground level via Mamdouh Salem Street, then Ramses Extension Street, ascending to Al-Abbassiya Bridge, and then onto Lotfy El-Sayed Axis towards Maghos and Ghamra.
From New Cairo and Tagamoa: It is advisable to take the Jihan El-Sadat Axis, then ascend October Bridge from Ghamra or Maghos entrances.
From Heliopolis: Using the New Roxy Axis is preferred, then ascending October Bridge from Ghamra entrance.
For Those Heading to Downtown: The Azhar Tunnel is recommended as a quick alternative.
Other alternative bridges include “May 15 Bridge, El-Galaa Bridge, El-Sahel Bridge, or Al-Jamia Bridge.”.
2. For Those Coming from Giza Heading to Cairo
From Imbaba and Kit Kat: It is advised to take Al-Sahel Bridge.
From Mohandessin and Dokki: It is recommended to use May 15 or El-Galaa Bridges.
From Cairo University and Giza Square: Using Al-Jamia Bridge is preferred.
From Downtown: Ground-level routes or the Azhar Tunnel are recommended.
The General Traffic Department urges citizens and drivers to adhere to traffic regulations and signage surrounding the work area, cooperating with traffic officers deployed around the clock for everyone’s safety until the scheduled maintenance concludes on Saturday morning.
