Prime Minister Inspects Construction of Mohamed Naguib Axis in Alexandria

Written byNoha El Shafie

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister of Egypt, conducted an inspection of the construction work on the “Mohamed Naguib” axis during his extensive tour in Alexandria.

Engineer Randa El-Manshawi, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, stated that these efforts are part of the state’s strategic vision aimed at restoring Alexandria’s historical and cultural identity as a tourist destination. She emphasized that the comprehensive development plan is proceeding according to precise national guidelines that balance developmental modernization with preserving the city’s rich aesthetic and heritage.

El-Manshawi explained that the “Mohamed Naguib” axis is a new transverse route connecting longitudinal axes within Alexandria, which will contribute to greater traffic fluidity and reduce travel time for residents moving in and out of the city. Additionally, it aims to enhance road network efficiency and improve traffic service levels in areas served by the axis.

The project includes the development of “Mohamed Naguib” Street over a length of three kilometers. Currently, work is underway on the first phase, which involves constructing a bridge over “Gamal Abdel Nasser” Road, alongside filling the existing tunnel and extending it from the southern side of the railway line.

The second phase will involve building a bridge at the intersection of “Mohamed Naguib” axis with “Mostafa Kamel” Road, which will be divided into two lanes: one leading towards “Mostafa Kamel” Road towards El-Maamoura and another connecting “Mohamed Naguib” axis to “Ameen Hassouna” Street leading out of the city.

Furthermore, this phase includes constructing a vehicle bridge for traffic moving from “Al-Mostajid” Street to “Mostafa Kamel” Road towards “El-Saa Square,” along with road works, utility relocation, and site coordination to ensure traffic integration and enhance movement efficiency within Alexandria.

Alexandria Governor Ayman Attia confirmed that this project is among the most significant new initiatives benefiting areas like “Sidi Bishr” and the corniche. He noted that periodic updates are being shared through Alexandria’s official social media pages to keep citizens informed about ongoing developments on the axis and any partial closures or alternative routes to avoid congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow.

The governor added that there is ongoing coordination with the General Traffic Department to provide guidance signage in work areas and enhance traffic management for vehicles and pedestrians. This effort aims to maintain smooth traffic flow, especially during peak congestion periods in summer.

Regarding field progress, Major General Osama El-Ganzouri, head of the Central Authority for Reconstruction, reviewed project objectives and work progress in the area. He indicated that construction on the “Mohamed Naguib” axis is proceeding according to scheduled timelines as part of a national plan to enhance road networks and alleviate traffic congestion in this densely populated region.

Major General Essam El-Gharabli, head of the North Coast Development Authority, noted that current operations include raising concrete beams for the bridge over “Gamal Abdel Nasser” Street under full supervision by his authority and in complete coordination with executive bodies and local traffic management to ensure adherence to high safety and quality standards.
