Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Takayuki Kobayashi, a member of the Japanese parliament and head of the Policy Research Council of the Liberal Democratic Party, on Thursday as part of his visit to Japan.

The discussions focused on enhancing Egyptian-Japanese relations across various sectors, which have been growing since their elevation to a strategic partnership. Minister Abdel Aty emphasized the importance of building on the positive momentum in bilateral relations, particularly in education and culture, which are fundamental pillars of cooperation between the two nations. He also highlighted the need to strengthen communication between legislative and party institutions to support joint cooperation and deepen mutual understanding between the friendly countries.

During the meeting, the minister expressed appreciation for Japan’s support for several leading development projects in Egypt, notably the Grand Egyptian Museum, Egyptian-Japanese educational partnerships at various levels, and the fourth line of the metro project. These initiatives have significantly contributed to supporting economic and social development efforts.

He expressed hope for continued support from Japanese institutions for these vital projects and building on successes achieved in education, especially through initiatives like Egyptian-Japanese schools and the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology. This collaboration enhances Egypt-Japan relations as a successful model of developmental cooperation.

Furthermore, Minister Abdel Aty presented key investment opportunities available in the Egyptian market, highlighting priority sectors that receive special attention from the state. These include renewable energy, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, manufacturing localization—covering automotive production as well as pharmaceutical and food industries—along with mining and chemical sectors.

He expressed hopes for Japan to play a larger role in encouraging Japanese companies to capitalize on promising investment opportunities available in Egypt across these sectors. The minister also reviewed positive indicators reflecting the performance of the Egyptian economy under a comprehensive economic reform program implemented by the state, which has enhanced its resilience against regional and international challenges.

The meeting also involved an exchange of views on several regional and international issues of mutual concern. Minister Abdel Aty updated Kobayashi on developments in the Middle East and Egypt’s efforts to contain regional tensions while promoting security and stability through political and diplomatic solutions to ongoing crises, thereby contributing to enhancing peace at both regional and international levels.
