Egypt’s Foreign Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Libyan Unity
Egypt and Malta Foreign Ministers.
Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Chris Fearne, the Foreign Minister of Malta, on Monday during the 11th meeting of the Egypt-European Union Partnership Council.
Minister Abdel Aty began the meeting by congratulating his Maltese counterpart on his new role, expressing Egypt’s pride in its strong bilateral relations with Malta, which have seen continuous development across various fields.
The foreign minister highlighted the shared interests and similar perspectives between the two nations on numerous regional issues.
He emphasized Egypt’s commitment to enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation with Malta, both bilaterally and within the framework of its partnership with the European Union. He noted the importance of building on past collaboration and exploring new avenues for partnership in renewable energy, water desalination, construction, infrastructure, and tourism.
Minister Abdel Aty expressed eagerness for the upcoming round of political consultations between the two countries to further strengthen existing cooperation frameworks and launch a joint committee aimed at broadening bilateral relations.
The meeting also included a discussion on regional developments. Minister Abdel Aty reviewed Egypt’s intensive efforts and communications aimed at resolving conflicts in the region. He welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran as a significant development towards restoring security and stability at both regional and international levels. Additionally, he briefed his Maltese counterpart on the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, stressing the need for regional and international collaboration to implement the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan.
Regarding Libya, Minister Abdel Aty reiterated Egypt’s steadfast position advocating for the preservation of Libya’s unity, stability, sovereignty, and national institutions. He emphasized support for a Libyan-led solution free from external interference that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people.
He underscored the importance of continuing efforts to advance political processes leading to simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest opportunity.
