Leeds United Targets Shakhtar Donetsk Goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk as Upgrade

Written byFerdous Saeed

Leeds United is reportedly considering the acquisition of Dmytro Riznyk, the goalkeeper from Shakhtar Donetsk, as a potential upgrade over Karl Darlow.

While Darlow has performed well this season, he may be relegated to the role of second-choice goalkeeper as Leeds aims for a top-half finish in the upcoming campaign.

The club has also inquired about the summer availability of Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion. Rushworth was instrumental for Coventry during their promotion to the Premier League in the 2025-26 season.

Next season, Frank Lampard’s Coventry will face off against Daniel Farke’s Leeds, who managed to avoid relegation during their first year back in the top tier of English football.

Despite suffering a 3-0 defeat at Championship-bound West Ham United on the final day of the Premier League season, Leeds was never in danger of finishing in the bottom three during the closing weeks of the campaign.

Leeds Seeking Goalkeeping Reinforcements

According to Football Insider, Leeds is bracing for significant changes in their goalkeeping lineup this summer, with veteran Darlow currently holding the starting position.

The report suggests that Leeds is keen on enhancing their squad with Riznyk, who has caught the attention of Premier League clubs due to his strong performances this season.

The 27-year-old is expected to step into the role of first-choice goalkeeper at Elland Road following his impressive displays for Shakhtar in the Conference League.

Shakhtar reached the semi-finals of UEFA’s third-tier competition but were eliminated by Crystal Palace, who showcased their Premier League quality over two legs.

Darlow is anticipated to be offered a new contract as he transitions into a backup role, while Lucas Perri’s future at the club remains uncertain.

Leeds’ Return to Premier League

Leeds struggled early in their Premier League campaign but saw an improvement following a tactical shift by head coach Daniel Farke. Adopting a 3-5-2 formation helped them turn their fortunes around during the festive period and pull away from relegation threats posed by teams like West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur.

The team finished comfortably in 14th place with 47 points and is eager to evolve into a side capable of competing for European spots next season.
