AS Roma Makes Unique Request to Mason Greenwood to Finalize £38m Transfer
AS Roma is preparing to submit a second formal offer for Mason Greenwood, aiming to expedite the transfer process with an unconventional request directed at the English forward.
In recent weeks, AS Roma has positioned itself as the frontrunner for Greenwood, having already reached an agreement on personal terms. The proposed deal is reportedly worth over £3.4 million (€4 million) annually, including bonuses, and is structured to increase over a five-year term. The primary hurdle now is persuading Olympique de Marseille to agree to the sale.

Negotiations have not been straightforward for the Giallorossi. Their initial offer included a loan fee of £4.3 million (€5 million) with an obligation to buy at £21.3 million (€25 million), plus an additional £8.5 million (€10 million) in performance-related add-ons, totaling £34 million (€40 million). However, this proposal was promptly rejected by Marseille, who are holding out for £47 million (€55 million) for their star player.
AS Roma is now set to enhance their bid. According to Corriere dello Sport, the Serie A club, which will compete in next season’s Champions League, aims to finalize negotiations with Marseille before the end of June, capitalizing on the French club’s reported need to generate funds by that date.
In this context, Roma is willing to increase their offer up to £38 million (€45 million) with a carefully structured proposal.

Despite Roma’s efforts, Marseille is maintaining its stance and insists on an additional £8.5 million (€10 million) on top of their asking price. Consequently, an agreement between the two clubs remains elusive.
To break the deadlock, AS Roma hopes that Greenwood will publicly distance himself from Marseille, potentially applying pressure on the French club to lower their demands. The Italian side is urging the former Manchester United forward to clarify his position publicly as part of their negotiation strategy.
Roma is eager to resolve this situation before month-end due to financial considerations and in anticipation of competition from other major European clubs; Atletico Madrid has already been identified as a potential competitor for Greenwood’s signature.
