Arsenal’s summer transfer efforts are intensifying as manager Mikel Arteta aims to build on the team’s Premier League title victory last season.

While much attention has been directed towards bolstering the attack, the Gunners are also keen on enhancing their midfield to improve squad depth and quality.

A key target now emerging is France international Manu Kone, who is part of the French squad competing in the 2026 World Cup.

Recent reports from Italy indicate that Arsenal has made substantial progress in their pursuit of Kone by ‘agreeing personal terms’ with the midfielder through his representatives.

The 25-year-old initially aimed for a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain and even rejected interest from Atletico Madrid while waiting for a chance to join the French champions. However, PSG’s hesitation to finalize a deal has allowed Arsenal to increase their interest.

Having established initial contact, Arsenal is now preparing a formal proposal for the AS Roma player.

The Serie A club is believed to be seeking at least €50 million (£45 million) for Kone, but Arsenal hopes that Roma’s need to balance their finances before June 30 could allow for negotiations, with £40 million expected to be sufficient.

Kone’s representatives are reportedly eager to expedite discussions, with Arsenal working on the details and timing of an official offer.

If Arsenal manages to secure Kone for around £40 million, it could turn out to be one of the most astute deals of the summer.

The France international embodies many qualities that Arteta seeks in midfield—he is athletic, aggressive in defense, and capable of advancing play under pressure while moving the ball quickly forward.

This profile makes him an ideal candidate to alleviate some of the workload on Declan Rice during another demanding season.

Kone’s versatility allows him to play both in a deeper role and as a more advanced No. 8, providing Arsenal with valuable tactical options. With expectations high for competition across multiple fronts next season, adding another high-caliber midfielder is crucial.

In a market where established midfielders often command fees exceeding £60 million, acquiring a proven France international entering his prime years for approximately £40 million would represent exceptional value.

While there is still work ahead before finalizing the transfer, early indications suggest this could be a very savvy acquisition for Arsenal.
