Iran to File Official Complaint with FIFA Over Travel Restrictions Ahead of World Cup 2026

Written byFerdous Saeed

Iran is preparing to lodge an official complaint with FIFA regarding what it describes as travel restrictions affecting its national team during the 2026 World Cup.

The Iranian national team is competing in the World Cup, placed in Group F alongside Egypt, Belgium, and New Zealand.

Iran began its group stage campaign with a 2-2 draw against New Zealand in the opening round of the tournament.

Formal Complaint Against the United States

According to reports from the BBC, the Iranian Football Federation plans to submit a formal protest to FIFA due to travel restrictions imposed on the team’s delegation during the tournament.

Reports indicate that the Iranian team is only permitted to travel to the United States one day before their matches and must leave the country on the same day, as stipulated by visa regulations.

In an official statement, the Iranian Football Association expressed its objection to these measures, arguing that they do not ensure a level playing field for all participating teams and could impact player readiness.

The statement further indicated that Iran’s federation would file a formal complaint with FIFA through the appropriate channels, contesting what it deems unfair restrictions affecting their preparations and readiness for the tournament.
