Arsenal Open to Selling Ethan Nwaneri Amid Newcastle Interest

Written byFerdous Saeed

Arsenal is reportedly willing to sell Ethan Nwaneri during the upcoming summer transfer window. The England Under-21 international has been regarded as one of the club’s most promising homegrown talents for several years.

At just 19 years old, Nwaneri has already made 51 appearances for the Gunners, contributing 10 goals and two assists. He had a promising start to his loan at Marseille but managed only 412 minutes across all competitions since January.

A recent report indicates that Mikel Arteta and the club’s management maintain confidence in the young star. However, according to Football Insider, Arsenal is now prepared to consider offers for Nwaneri ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Newcastle United Eyeing Nwaneri

Former scout Mick Brown, a frequent contributor to Football Insider, suggests that Newcastle United is among the clubs interested in acquiring Nwaneri’s signature. He stated, “Arsenal want to sell Ethan Nwaneri, so there are bound to be suitors. Newcastle will be among them, because they know they’re going to have to improve after a difficult season and might also lose players.”.

Brown highlighted Nwaneri’s versatility, noting he can play in midfield or on the right wing—positions where Newcastle is looking to strengthen. He added, “If they are given indications that he will be available, as I expect, then they could well make a move and I think the player would be open to it.”.

The Future of Nwaneri at Arsenal

As Premier League champions and Champions League runners-up, Arsenal’s stature has significantly increased. With players like Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, Arteta is clearly aiming high.

However, key players such as Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gabriel Jesus may leave Arsenal in the coming months. This situation could provide an opportunity for Nwaneri to make an impact in the first team.

The decision on whether Arsenal will retain both Nwaneri and 16-year-old Max Dowman as first-team options could hinge on Arteta’s strategy moving forward as the club seeks more silverware. Dowman’s emergence may reduce the urgency for Nwaneri to realize his potential at Arsenal while potentially allowing the club to command a significant fee for his transfer.
