Barcelona Faces Premier League Rivalry for Goalkeeper Alex Remiro
Barcelona is reportedly preparing for a competitive summer transfer window as they vie for Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro, with Aston Villa also showing interest in the 31-year-old.
Remiro’s contract runs until the summer of 2027, but he is anticipated to be on the move ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The Catalan club sees him as an ideal backup for Joan Garcia, especially with Marc-André ter Stegen expected to depart permanently this summer.
However, joining Barcelona would require Remiro to accept a secondary role, a significant shift from his current position as the number one at Real Sociedad.

Competition for Remiro Intensifies
According to Mundo Deportivo, Aston Villa is keen on acquiring Remiro, with Unai Emery’s side potentially offering him the opportunity to become their starting goalkeeper if Emiliano Martinez departs.
Other clubs such as Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, and Napoli have also been linked with the talented shot-stopper.
Since joining Real Sociedad from Athletic Bilbao in 2019, Remiro has made 309 appearances, including 39 matches during the 2025-26 season.
He was considered for inclusion in Spain’s squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup but ultimately missed out to Unai Simon, David Raya, and Joan Garcia.

Aston Villa Among Clubs Pursuing Remiro
Remiro is recognized as a reliable performer at the highest level and could be available for approximately £9 million due to his contract expiring next year.
This summer has already seen Barcelona face challenges in the transfer market, notably losing Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid.
Nonetheless, the club has secured a significant deal to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United and plans to make additional signings in the coming months.
