Ministry of Local Development Receives 52 Land Parcels After Vehicle Evictions

Dr. Manal Awad, the Minister of Local Development and Environment, alongside Attorney General Counselor Mohamed Shawky, presided over the handover of 52 land parcels to the Ministry of Local Development and Environment today. This transfer comes after the land was cleared of vehicles that had been seized, as part of the government’s efforts to reclaim underutilized assets and optimize their use pending regulatory decisions.
The handover ceremony took place at the Attorney General’s office, where the transfer documents were signed by Counselor Yasser Hussein, Head of Appeals and Director of Prosecutions, and Dr. Said Helmy Abdel Khalek, Head of Integrated Planning and Local Development at the Ministry. Several leaders from both the Public Prosecution and the ministry were present at the event.
Dr. Manal Awad expressed her sincere appreciation to Attorney General Counselor Shawky and members of the Public Prosecution for their effective results in this matter, highlighting a clear vision, meticulous follow-up, and a serious commitment to overcoming challenges and achieving tangible successes. She also extended her gratitude to all parties involved in these efforts, including governors and executive leaders from various provinces.
She noted that ongoing collaboration between the ministry, provinces, and the Public Prosecution exemplifies a commendable model for cooperation among Egyptian state institutions. It showcases what can be achieved when roles are integrated and efforts are united behind a clear national objective that serves both the state and its citizens.
The Minister praised the exceptional efforts exerted by the Public Prosecution in managing this file effectively. She acknowledged firsthand the seriousness, determination, and continuous fieldwork led by the Attorney General and executed by members of the Public Prosecution across Egypt.
Dr. Awad added that coordination between the Public Prosecution and her ministry has significantly contributed to achieving concrete results in a short time frame regarding this matter. This reinforces that collaborative institutional work remains the best approach to address accumulated issues efficiently while serving public interests.
She emphasized that this matter has always been a priority for her ministry due to its connection with reclaiming state lands, maximizing public asset utilization, and supporting development plans across provinces. From day one, her ministry has committed to fully cooperating with the Public Prosecution in executing its vision for addressing this issue while providing necessary support to various provinces.
Attorney General Counselor Mohamed Shawky commended the sincere efforts made by the Ministry of Local Development and Environment as well as the constructive collaboration demonstrated by governors. He appreciated the unprecedented coordination between his office and the Ministry that has facilitated significant progress on tasks assigned within this file. He expressed his hope for continued cooperation at this pace until all vehicle storage areas are completely cleared and returned to relevant authorities, ensuring optimal recovery of state assets.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Public Prosecution to clear storage areas and manage seized vehicles in accordance with legal provisions designed to maximize state asset benefits while protecting public funds and citizens’ rights. These efforts have led to over 100,000 vehicles being returned to their owners.
The Public Prosecution recently announced an additional clearance of 52 storage areas alongside 13 previously announced during the past two months, bringing total cleared areas to 65 with an estimated value nearing EGP 4.5 billion. Furthermore, revenues from vehicle sales have reached approximately EGP 2.5 billion.
The Public Prosecution reaffirms its commitment to continue clearing all storage areas nationwide, enabling citizens to reclaim their properties while maximizing state asset benefits in line with political directives aimed at serving public interest.
